Marina was thrilled when she got her dream job in Cape Town - taking out groups on educational marine study and whale watching trips. She had worked towards it for years and as her husband had just been posted to Cape Town with his firm, it was a great opportunity. To join her new company she had to travel to Cape Town to complete and pass a course. The course was going to be a week.
Marina had been in Cape Town one night when she met Linda in a bar. All the rest of the people on the course were men and she was glad to find another girl to speak to. Linda was a local and took Marina out and about showing her the nightlife of Cape Town. Marina enjoyed their first night out a lot so she agreed readily when Linda suggested that they meet up the next night.
On their next night out, Linda and Marina bumped into a couple of men that Linda knew and the four went for a meal. Afterwards one of the men suggested a nightclub, and although Marina it was a bit worried about being up so late, she agreed. Towards the end of the evening Marina began to feel a bit lightheaded. Linda suggested that they go back to the hotel with her to make sure she got back safely. After that, everything got a bit hazy although Marina was vaguely aware that she and Linda where in bed with the two men they had met.
The next morning Marina woke up with a terrible headache and a terrible feeling that she had done something she was going to regret, if only she could remember what it was. Marina was beginning to think that she had been drugged. What had happened after that, she didn’t know. Over the next couple of nights that she was in Cape Town she tried all the places she been to with Linda, but her new friend was nowhere to be seen. Marina was horrified and disgusted at what she now realised had happened. She thought about reporting it to the police, but with her new job about to start, and the thought of a husband finding, out stopped her. She would just have to chalk it up to experience
At the end of that week her new job was in the bag, she had passed the training course and went back to Johannesburg to wait for a start date to be sent to her. However, the next time Marina heard from Cape Town, it was not from her new company, it was from Linda.
Linda confirmed Marina’s worst fears about that night and the video that Linda had attached to her email showed Marina exactly what she had missed on the night while she was drugged. The two men and Linda had made a very graphic pornographic film of the four of them in Marina’s hotel room. Linda was demanding that Marina pay a large amount of money. If Marina did not, then the video would be sent to her husband and to her new employers in Cape Town who, Marina knew would then become her ex-employers.
Fortunately Marina remembered our name from when a friend of hers had been seeking our help to uncover a marital infidelity. She made contact with us because she needed help fast, and we reassured her that we would do our best to find Linda and her gang and stop this threat from ruining her marriage, and her new employment in Cape Town. Marina was very shaken, and we did our best to explain to her that this was not her fault. We urged her to tell her husband, but Marina could not face doing that.
The Wilsons Detectives cyber intelligence team started work on Marina’s case immediately, and soon tracked down the source of the email that had been sent to Marina. They liaised with the police in Cape Town, who confirmed that they knew a gang were operating in the town and that they had seen several cases like Marina’s over the previous months. Working together and with Wilsons Detectives operatives doing some old-fashioned work on the ground, they soon identified Linda and her accomplices. Cape Town police were given a bit of a run-around but eventually cornered the gang and arrested them seizing all the material they had made, including the film of Marina in her hotel room. They faced very serious charges, of blackmail as well as drugging their victims.
Marina was very pleased with the result and is now thoroughly enjoying a new job in Cape Town.
